Academic Information

Academic Schedule

Classes usually commence around the last week of June and last week of December of each year. Schedules are distributed at the beginning of each semester. The student’s 40-hour schedule is divided between classroom and clinical education. Student educational involvement will never exceed 40 hours per week or 8 hours per day.

Students should make every attempt possible to attend class and be on time. The student is responsible for all missed classwork. Protocols for missed quizzes, test and exams can be found on individual instructor’s syllabi.

Academic Calendar

**The Medical Center has a right to mandate non-essential personnel to be off on additional days related to certain holidays. The radiology school falls into this category. Therefore, this calendar is subject to change (if deemed necessary by the Medical Center).

Home Preparation

There is no suggested minimum preparation time because each student learns at a different pace with different study habits. However, students who feel their preparation is lacking may schedule an appointment with faculty members to arrange an individually suggested minimum study and preparation schedule.

Tutorial Program

The School offers a tutorial program for those students who feel they need assistance with their didactic studies. The school faculty will provide scheduled academic counseling with the student and can help the student find an outside tutor.

Courses

Clinical rotations are assigned during the two-year program with their associated credits. One hundred clinical hours is equivalent to 1 credit. A clock hour is a session of instruction that lasts for 60 minutes. Students are required to complete clinical requirements with a minimum grade of 85%.

Additional Course Requirement: UCS 200, "Becoming a Civically Engaged Professional"

In the third or fourth semester of the radiography program, students are required to complete a 3-credit online course offered by Widener University. The course is UCS 200 “Becoming a Civically Engaged Professional.” This course must be completed with a passing grade in order for the student to be eligible for graduation from the radiography program. This course follows the grading system for Widener University (please see "Widener Grading System below).

UCS 200 Course Description: This course for all continuing students focuses on promoting learning through active participation in-service experiences. Students build on their volunteer knowledge by reading and discussing essays about serving, giving, and leading. The historical context of service-learning is reviewed. Structured reflection time is provided during which students link their beliefs about civic engagement to their individual experience. Several opportunities are provided to the students to work in the surrounding community.

Grades

Grades will be issued for all completed courses. Transcripts/reports will be distributed to each student at the close of each semester and mailed after graduation from the program. In addition to end-of-semester grades, students will receive mid-semester evaluations and/or failure warnings, if necessary, at any time during the course of the program.

Minimum Grades

The following percentages reflect the programs’ minimal requirements:

• Minimum passing grades for a single course    75%
• Minimum passing grades for a single course    75%
• Minimum passing overall semester average     75%
• Minimum passing grade for clinical education   85%

Grading Guidelines and Probation Policies

Grades will be recorded as numerical averages, which will include all or a portion of the following:

• Examinations
• Tests
• Quizzes
• Class Participation
• Homework

Each individual instructor will decide final Grade calculations and copy of grade composition as well as the course syllabus will be distributed to each student at the start of a new class.

Incomplete or Failure of Any Portion of the Class

Remediation of incomplete or failed work will be provided. All remediation practices will be agreed upon by peer review. All remediation practices will be published and presented to each student via the course syllabus at the start of each new class. The Advisory Committee will review chronic incomplete or failed work. Any courses conducted through Widener University throughout the two-year course of study while in the radiography program will follow the grade breakdown for Widener University and not the grade breakdown for the radiography program (this being the UCS 200 course, "Becoming a Civically Engaged Professional" taken in the last semester of the radiography program).
