Gender Affirmation Fellowship
Welcome to the Gender Affirmation Surgical Fellowship Program
Overview
This is a clinical and research fellowship in gender-affirming surgery fully devoted to all aspects of surgical care.
The goal of the fellowship is to provide comprehensive training with graduated responsibility before entering independent practice.
This 12-month fellowship offers candidates the opportunity to participate in a broad range of masculinizing and feminizing procedures.
Curriculum
The curriculum includes supervised clinical experiences with the following procedures
- Masculinizing
- Top surgery (subcutaneous mastectomy)
- Metoidioplasty
- Phalloplasty
- Feminizing
- Penile-inversion vaginoplasty
- Breast Augmentation
- Non-binary
Personal Qualities and Attributes of Potential Fellows
- Completed ACGME accredited program in either Plastic Surgery or Urology
- Must be Board Eligible or Board Certified in Pennsylvania
- Excellent academic and clinical record
- Interest in care for patients with gender dysphoria

Dr. Kathy L. Rumer is one of the few female board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeons in the Philadelphia tri-state area. She also a Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons and a Site Director for the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship.
Dr. Rumer brings a unique background to her practice, combining advanced mathematics, engineering, art, and science to provide her patients with the best possible experience in their cosmetic endeavors. She received her Bachelor’s degree from Ursinus College, with a major in Applied Mathematics. She also acquired a formal education in Fine Arts and engineering. Following college, Rumer was an Aerospace engineer and a member of various NASA satellite launch teams. Seeking more of a personal challenge, Rumer decided to explore medicine in order to give her the satisfaction she sought in a career. After completing her plastic and reconstructive surgical training at PCOM, she decided to open her own practice
Dr. Rumer is also a highly experienced, and nationally-recognized, transgender surgical specialist. She offers all types of gender-confirming surgical procedures for both the male-to-female (MTF) and the female-to-male (FTM) communities. She has successfully performed numerous face, breast, chest, body contouring, and gender reassignment (GRS) surgeries and is a member of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH).
