FAQs

  • The Internal Medicine Residency is three years.

  • There are eight per training year.

  • Step 2 CS must be passed at the time of application on the first attempt.

  • Yes, we accept both allopathic and osteopathic candidates.

  • It is preferred, but not required.

  • There is  one elective block in the first year, three elective blocks in the second year, and three elective blocks in the third year.



  • Yes, we sponsor the J-1 visa.

  • Yes. We do allow "away" electives within the United States based on GME policies, provided adequate notice is given, the required paperwork is completed and the resident is in good standing in the program.

  • No, all applicants are matched through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP).

    • R1, floor services – on call 4-5 days, weekdays 4:30 pm to 9:00 pm and weekends 7:30 am to 9:00 pm. Night float takes over at 9:00 pm. R1 cross cover floors during ambulatory or ED rotations, no more than 5 nights per year.
    • R1, ICU service - on weekend calls only, from 7:30 am to 6:30 pm.
    • R1 does ICU NF for 5-6 nights per ICU block, with an R2 or R3.
    • R2 & 3 – are on call three times a month during their floor rotations. Cross cover ICU during ambulatory rotations only and no more than 5 nights per year. R2 and R3 cover ICU as NF 6 nights a week.
  • Yes. R1 NF relieves the on call interns 6 nights a week. R1 also covers 5-6 shifts as ICU NF during their month in the ICU, supervised by the ICU R2 or R3. R2/3 NF covers the ICU 6 nights per week from 6:30 pm to 7:30 am. Floor residents cover ICU over the weekend.

  • Many have gone on to fellowships including cardiology, pulmonary and critical care medicine, infectious disease, endocrinology, hematology and oncology and nephrology, among others. The remainder have entered practices in primary care and hospitalist positions.

  • All residents are required to participate in scholarly activity. The outcome of this project is presented twice a year. Residents have traveled both regionally and nationally to present their projects.
