Kidney Transplant Program Leads the Team in New Donor Sign-Ups

For the third year in a row, Crozer Health ’s kidney transplant program is being recognized for its efforts in the Donate Life Hospital Challenge. The annual campaign challenges hospitals in Pennsylvania to raise awareness of the critical need for organ donation.

Crozer-Chester Medical Center surpassed last year’s performance by escalating to a Titanium Level of distinction, which is the highest level possible. Delaware County Memorial Hospital, Springfield Hospital andTaylor Hospital all achieved Platinum Level of distinction, surpassing last year’s Gold Level.

“The most remarkable part of this year’s campaign results is that the team surpassed last year in a fraction of the time.,” says Sunny L. Fink, M.D., Crozer Health ’s surgical director.

The typical campaign time as governed by the Hospital and Health system Association of Pennsylvania is five months. This year, however, the team pounded the pavement and rose to Titanium level in just one month. “Crozer’s spirit was in high gear as the campaign team inspired many new organ donors,” Fink says.

It was an intense and passionate campaign, explains Edward Strouse, MSN, RN, BSBA, clinical director of the kidney transplant program.

In addition to the annual Donate Life Tree at Crozer-Chester Medical Center, Strouse’s team participated in the Donate Life 5K Run, and hosted educational events, donor sign-ups and other events during the month. His interdisciplinary team included transplant nurses, social workers andpharmacists, as well as the office staff and physicians.

This year’s campaign signed up several new organ donors, says Strouse.
