Crozer Health Partners with Global Neurosciences Institute to Develop Comprehensive Neurosciences Program

Director of GNI
Crozer Health today announced it has entered into a partnership with Global Neurosciences Institute (GNI) to develop a comprehensive neurosciences institute focused on delivering clinically advanced brain and spine care services. This patient-focused institute will use the latest research and state-of-the-art technologies to diagnose and treat patients with a full range of neurological conditions including stroke, aneurysm, brain tumor, concussion, spine treatments, epilepsy, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease and movement disorders, Alzheimer’s disease and cognitive disorders, pain management, and behavioral health conditions.
GNI’s team of highly skilled, fellowship-trained neurosurgeons, neurologists and researchers will integrate with Crozer Health’s well-established, board-certified neurologists and neurosurgeons to create a collaborative institute committed to holistic, patient-centered care with individualized service.
“The neurosciences field has seen remarkable advancements in recent years, and GNI has been at the forefront of these developments in research and practice. The practitioners at GNI are focused on improving patient care by pioneering new surgical techniques and inventing new therapies while keeping their patients at the forefront of everything they do,” says Patrick Gavin, Chief Executive Officer of Crozer Health. “This partnership will allow us to offer patients the most advanced neurological care in Delaware County and the Philadelphia suburbs.”
“Crozer Health’s clinical leadership, strategic vision and range of services made them an attractive partner for GNI. In addition to their well-established neurological service line, the Health System is a regional leader in behavioral health with the largest team of psychiatric clinicians in the Philadelphia region. This will be a key component to our approach of cultivating true patient-doctor relationships through our deliberate, coordinated team approach to neurological health. Our neurosciences institute will be able to explore new treatment methods for neurological and psychiatric disorders. Ultimately, we’re focused on changing lives and transforming healthcare,” says Erol Veznedaroglu, M.D., FACS, FAANS, FAHA, Director of GNI.
Veznedaroglu, known to his patients as ‘Dr. Vez,’ is board-certified in comprehensive vascular and endovascular neurosurgery, making him one of a select group of physicians in the country able to offer a full range of conventional and minimally invasive neurosurgical treatment options.
The Institute also provides patients with novel surgical treatments not available elsewhere in the region aimed at improving their quality of life and enhancing their recovery process. This includes a trial for the treatment of brain tumors by delivering chemotherapy directly to the site of the tumor in the brain using a minimally invasive technique (intra-arterial chemotherapy), in addition to traditional IV chemotherapy. A second trial focuses on delivering a neuro-protective medication to acute stroke patients aimed at improving the brain healing process immediately after successful treatment of the stroke itself. GNI is the only provider in the region for this procedure. GNI will also be bringing the region’s only dedicated Neurological Emergency Room that will be staffed by pioneers in the field.
GNI employs the largest group of comprehensive vascular neurosurgeons in the region, leads a fellowship program focused on training the next generation of these specialized neurosurgeons, lectures on the world stage and treats patients at healthcare systems in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York. It partners with select healthcare systems to provide academic and research leadership in the field of neuroscience and has created hospital-based neuroscience institutes that include dedicated, closed Neuro Intensive Care Units. GNI was the first institute to lead the formation of a Neurological Emergency Room (ER) to dramatically expedite treatment time for patients with life-threatening conditions providing the best care possible for patients and their families. They have pioneered some of the most advanced vascular neurosurgery techniques used around the world today — and regularly use life-saving devices and perform groundbreaking procedures.
