Crozer Health Celebrates World Stroke Day

Raising awareness and funds for the American Heart Association

Last week, Crozer Health hosted a socially distanced CycleNation fundraiser at the Springfield YMCA, in observance of World Stroke Day. CycleNation is the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s nationwide movement empowering Americans to get heart-healthy and brain-healthy while raising funds to continue vital community programs lowering the risk for heart disease and stroke.

Teams across the health system raised funds and awareness online and in the Crozer Health hospitals. To date, they’ve raised almost $17,000.

“The Delco Heart Challenge was an opportunity for our team to be well and do good, show our Delco pride, and support our community,” said Crozer Health CEO, Peter Adamo, “all while improving overall health and wellbeing.”

Ten cyclists – including Patrick Kerrwood, President of Crozer-Chester Medical Center; Matt Shelak, President of Delaware County Memorial Hospital; Jonathan Koonce, Administrator of Taylor Hospital; Christine Mendez, MSN, RN, Chief Nurse Executive; Salima El Mezouari,  Operations Improvement Project Manager; and Christina Cavanaugh MSN, RN, CNL, Clinical Director of the Emergency Department, Delaware County Memorial Hospital – geared up to cycle for funds.

“Strokes don’t discriminate,” concluded Adamo. “They can happen to anyone, at any age, and about one in four people worldwide will have one in their lifetime. We are honored to participate in American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s campaign to raise awareness and funds.”
