Crozer Health ’s Opioid Treatment Center of Excellence helps Delaware County residents suffering from opioid use disorder find and access the recovery treatment they need. Whether referred or independently seeking treatment, the Center of Excellence navigates patients through the entire recovery process - removing any barriers along the way.

We are committed to educating the community, including healthcare, education and law enforcement organizations, about opioid use disorder. Our goal is to ensure these organizations can identify individuals suffering from opioid use disorder and, with help from the Center of Excellence, connect them with the care they need.

The care team at the Center of Excellence includes the Center’s director, service coordinator, nurse navigator, master’s level social worker and two certified recovery specialists.

The services offered by the Center of Excellence are free to Delaware County residents through a grant established by Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf and a partnership with the Delaware County Office of Behavioral Health, Division of Drug and Alcohol.

Removing Barriers on the Road to Recovery

The Center of Excellence helps to remove the most common barriers to treatment, including:

  • Cost: Our services are free to residents of Delaware County – no billing or insurance is required.
  • Transportation: We will provide or arrange transportation for assessment and treatment.
  • The Process: Our team helps patients navigate the healthcare system, from assessment through recovery.
  • Referrals: The Center of Excellence does not require a referral. Contact us anytime for support.
  • Placement: Crozer Health’s Drug and Alcohol Access Center is able to place most patients in a treatment center within 48 hours of their assessment.

Understanding the Opioid Epidemic

Many cases of opioid addiction start with a patient overusing or abusing their pain medication, such as morphine, codeine, hydrocodone, oxycodone and fentanyl. This can frequently lead to the use of illegal opioids, such as heroin.

In 2015, Pennsylvania reported a 23 percent increase in the number of drug-related overdose deaths from the previous year. Heroin was the most frequently identified drug in toxicology test results. That year, there were 204 drug-related deaths in Delaware County, more than half of which were related to heroin and fentanyl.
