General diagnostic X-ray uses radiation to produce pictures of the various bones in the body. Standard X-rays are performed for many reasons, including diagnosing tumors or bone injuries. Common X-ray sites include:

  • Chest
  • Abdomen
  • Spine
  • Arms
  • Hands
  • Legs
  • Feet

Patients are asked to lie on a table or stand in front of an X-ray table, depending on the type of X-ray ordered. The technologist places the X-ray plate under the area to be examined.
